Build, craft, explore, repeat. - Minecraft: Pocket Edition Review
Minecraft: Pocket Edition
What is Minecraft: Pocket Edition?
Build, craft, and explore! Minecraft: Pocket Edition is the mobile version of the popular open-world sandbox game Minecraft available on iOS and Android devices. The game was created by the developers of Mojang which initially released in 2009 on computers with the Pocket Edition version releasing in 2011. From the screens of the TV and computer to the phone you carry in your pocket, Minecraft is here!
What to expect:
Played by millions of people around the world, Minecraft has become a game known to be a part of many peoples' childhoods. If you are familiar with Minecraft played on a computer or videogame console, the Pocket Edition version on mobile devices offers the same experience and features. Minecraft: Pocket Edition offers players the ability to create their own world and play the way they want to play in the palm of their hands.
There are two different modes that players can select when starting the game. The first one is Survival, where you must be careful of dangers that are harmful to the health of the in-game character as you explore the world. Day cycles within Minecraft go from day to night over time, with daytime being very peaceful, to nighttime being very dangerous. At nighttime, a variety of monsters generate around the world such as zombies, skeletons with shooting bows, self-exploding creatures called creepers, big spiders, and more. To avoid these monsters, it is encouraged to build a shelter using blocks the player can acquire around the world like wood and stone. Weapons can be crafted using a crafting workbench block where you can forge swords, pickaxes, axes, and shovels out of wood, iron, gold, and diamond. Armour pieces can also be forged that the player can equip to offer protection. Like in real life, food is important. As the player moves around the world walking, swimming, and sprinting, a stamina or hunger bar depletes over time and if it runs out, damage is inflicted on the character until they eat food. Food can be acquired by finding and slaying animals which generate around the world like sheep, cow, pig, and chickens. Slaying them will give you meat that can be cooked in a furnace using coal found in caves and replenish the hunger bar when eaten. Adventure into the deep dark caves with torches for light and pickaxes to mine valuable ores that you find. Go into another dimension called the Nether where more creatures lurk by building a portal made of obsidian blocks.
The second mode is the Creative mode. In this mode, the player does not have to worry about surviving monsters and finding food. They can fly around the world and have access to every block available in the game through a menu. With over 100 different blocks in the game for players to choose from, the possibilities are endless when coming up with ideas to build. Minecraft Building Inc. gives a great list of Building Ideas to choose from for inspiration in making your world even more exciting.
Minecraft: Pocket Edition is a great game when it comes to expressing creativity as there are no limits. Play alone or with friends through multiplayer. If you are looking for a relaxing stress-free game to enjoy on your own or with friends on the go, this game is a great choice.
